Compaction Pressure Grouting

Compaction Pressure Grouting requires specialized equipment, material and knowledge to perform.  Years of training are required to fully understand the compaction pressure grouting process and hours of planning are necessary for every project. Accurate location layout, depth, soil type and the building structure type all have a factor in determining the method of compaction pressure grouting.

Once the available data is gathered and the project's analysis has been completed, the project commences. The first step of the project is to review the project on site with the project superintendent and mark all locations to be drilled.

The next step is to drill the locations with a mobile air/water hand held drill with a special attachment designed to fit our 2" seamless tubing that is used to pump the grout material into the underlying soils. Once all the locations have been drilled to a depth where a proper bearing material has been obtained, a specialized mobile grout mixer unit and custom grout pump are mobilized to the job site.

The mobile mixer unit is uniquely designed to be a completely self contained unit with separate containers to carry water, the grout aggregate and cement. With the varying degree of soil conditions in the Rocky Mountains Region our unit is completely adjustable to adapt to any job or soil condition. We can adjust the amount of water and cement that is added to the grout aggregate along with adjusting the slump of the grout material. All this can be achieved at a moments notice as the situation demands.

The grout material is then deposited into a highly specialized grout pump designed to deliver the grout material at a low volume - high pressure to achieve maximum soil consolidation. This pump is operated by the job superintendent by remote control.

The material is pumped through a special hose designed to withstand the pressure obtained, to the manifold, which is attached to the hose on one end and the grout pipe on the other. Attached on the manifold is a certified pressure meter that is monitored at all times and records kept of various pressures obtained at each location.

The material used is specifically blended 3/8" minus mix resembling a class 6 road base with 20% 200 fines.  This material has proven effective in many different soil conditions throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and New Mexico. When mixed with cement, we can obtain a grout material that cures to 800 to 1000 PSI.  This is many times stronger than the surrounding soil, which in turn, prevents erosion, helps stabilize the surrounding soils and increases the load bearing capacity of the underlying soils.

As the grout is being pumped into the ground and the soil is being stabilized, the area is carefully monitored with automatic levels to insure an even lift of the settled area and that the proper lift has been acquired. Once an area has been completed, the area is cleaned up, holes patched and elevations are taken and recorded for future reference.
